Turkmen leader writes his first book – will he outdo his father?

Turkmen President Serdar Berdimukhamedov has published his first book, following in the footsteps of his father and predecessor, who during his time in office penned 60 various book titles.

President Berdimukhamedov presented his book “The Youth are the Pillar of Homeland” at a meeting with regional governors on Monday, official reports said.

The book was released ahead of a scientific conference called “Happy Youth with Arkadag Serdar” (“arkadag” in Turkmen means “protector”).

The president gave the first copy of his book, which is about the Turkmen youth’s “achievements and successes”, to former president Gurbanguly Berdimukhamedov.

Gurbanguly Berdimukhamedov handed over the presidency to his son in 2022 after 16 years at the helm. During that time, he had written books at the rate of one every 3.2 months.

The titles authored by him include “Turkmenistan is a Country of Healthy and Highly Spiritual People”, as well as books on medicinal herbs, horses and so on.

The former president, who now serves as speaker of parliament, published another book earlier this year.

Called “The Continuation of the Meaning of Life”, it was a sequel to the last book he had written as president, “The Meaning of Life”, which is said to be about crucial stages of his own life and Turkmenistan’s history.
