Kazakhstan to start making Turkish drones next year

Production of Turkish Anka drones is expected to be launched in Kazakhstan in 2024, the Turkish Aerospace Industries’ manager for development, Erol Oguz has said.

Oguz said that the sides are currently calculating the cost of the project, according to Atameken Business, the news service of the Kazakhstan Chamber of Commerce.

“Our goal is not to just launch production, but share experience and technologies, so that in the future Kazakhstan will be able to make unmanned aerial vehicles independently,” Oguz was quoted as saying by Atameken Business Telegram channel on 15 October.

The deal to produce Anka drones in Kazakhstan was signed in May 2002 between TAI and Qazaqstan Engineering. Kazakhstan will be the first foreign country to launch own production of Anka drones.

TAI has been making Anka drones for the Turkish armed forces since 2013. There are several Anka models – for surveillance and reconnaissance missions, and combat. It is not clear which model, or models are planned to be made in Kazakhstan.
